As we enter a new month of redistricting, I want to take this opportunity to update you about the execution of the NDRC's multi-pronged strategy to prevent Republican gerrymandering. First of all, Democrats are in a much better position than we were during 2011 redistricting, which is a testament to the hard work of fair-maps supporters like you. Thank you.

That said, we still have our work cut out for us. Here's what I told CNN: The recently released census data made it clear that the U.S. is becoming more diverse, less rural, and more concentrated in urban and suburban communities. What we should be seeing are districts that reflect those trends and the growing influence of people of color and young people.
However, Republicans know that many of those communities tend to dislike their agenda. And instead of changing their policies or making themselves more competitive, they are instead trying to wield their power of the pen to predetermine election outcomes based on the maps they draw.

That's not fair, it's not right and that's what we are fighting against. If you agree, please make a donation to the NDRC.

Now, about the strategy we are executing in states across the country. Our staff is on the ground educating voters, preparing testimony for legislative hearings, and mobilizing the movement we've built over the past four years to demand fair maps. But we also expect that the fight won't end this year. Where Republicans insist on gerrymandering, we will hold them accountable with public advocacy and eventually at the ballot box.

The moment we are in couldn't be more critical. In that same segment on CNN,expert Dave Wasserman of the Cook Political Report was asked whether control of the U.S. House of Representatives could in fact come down to whether redistricting is fair in a state like Texas. Dave answered that it very well could . That means what happens in 2022, and 2024, and beyond, will depend on how hard we fight this year.
