John,
With new revelations in the House's impeachment inquiry coming every day—even every hour—you’re probably feeling like it's hard to keep up. So I thought I’d take the opportunity to give you a brief update about what’s going on. Dating back to September, the House Oversight and Reform Committee, the Foreign Affairs Committee, and the Intelligence Committee have been working together to investigate President Trump's scheme to get Ukraine to interfere with the 2020 election, to illegally withhold military assistance provided by Congress to help Ukraine counter Russian aggression, and his wide-ranging efforts to cover up these shocking acts.
Following the whistleblower report of President Trump’s phone call with the President of Ukraine, and the President’s acknowledgment that he indeed tried to get Ukraine to help in his re-election, the House has begun an impeachment inquiry. Numerous current and former State Department officials have been scheduling interviews and depositions, and producing documents, that present a clear case for impeachment.
Do you believe that the House needs to thoroughly investigate this matter and identify everyone involved in Trump’s scheme? Click here to make your opinion known.
Donald Trump and his defenders in the cabinet have refused to cooperate with the impeachment inquiry, despite the clear threat that his abuses of power pose to our national security and the rule of law. He has even directed federal officials to illegally ignore congressional subpoenas and help him in a cover-up.
Fortunately, many current and former officials have done their duty and provided Congress with information about what they know. As more and more information comes to light, it is clear that the President has repeatedly violated his oath of office, more Americans are saying that they support the impeachment inquiry, and are telling us that Congress must get to the bottom of this.
I’d like to know what you think about all this. Do you think that the President should be allowed to withhold military assistance to Ukraine in order to get Ukrainian officials to interfere in our election?
Right now, we’re living through a critical time like no other in American history. I’m anxious to hear your thoughts.
Best,
