John,
I want to extend my gratitude for your contributions ahead of last week’s end-of-quarter fundraising deadline. It was close, but with your support we were able to meet our goal in the final hours. Hitting this mark, and keeping our campaign fully funded, would not have been possible with you. I can’t thank you enough.
Our work continues, John.
This weekend, an offshore pipeline failure caused more than 126,000 gallons of crude oil to spill on the shores of Huntington and Newport Beach. The spill caused major environmental damage, killed marine life, and is threatening local wetlands. Recovery efforts are already underway, but beaches stretching as far south as Dana Point will remain closed until further notice.
This is yet another reminder of the threat that offshore drilling poses to our environment and our local economy. We need to end our reliance on fossil fuels, and we need to permanently ban new offshore drilling while phasing down and ending existing drilling. I'm leading the House bill to end new drilling off the coast of Southern California, and I won’t stop until we get it done.
Today, I am asking you to reaffirm your commitment to banning offshore drilling off our coastlines. Will you add your name to become a citizen cosponsor of the American Coasts and Oceans Protection Act?

Mike
