John, I'm excited to share the latest from CRC with you:
- What offshore funder hopes to reshape immigration policy?
Atlantic Philanthropies, based in Bermuda and recipient of one billionaire's fortune, provided the financial fuel that powered the Obamacare lobbying campaign. Now Atlantic is funding another campaign to completely reshape U.S. immigration policy. CRC's Hayden Ludwig exposes both mass political action campaigns here.
- What spawned the Democracy Alliance?
The re-election of President George W. Bush in 2004 led to much soul-searching and finger-pointing among Democrats. Many left-wing activists and donors blamed the Democratic establishment and began looking for new ways to organize and fundraise. One major result was the Democracy Alliance, a donor cabal co-founded by George Soros. CRC's Robert Stilson reviews The Argument, a 2007 book by a left-wing author that reveals the early history of the Alliance here.
- Whither woke philanthropy?
Vivek Ramaswamy's new book Woke, Inc.: Inside Corporate America's Social Justice Scam has been well-received among conservatives for its thoughtful argument against woke capitalism. Extended to Big Philanthropy, Ramaswamy's reasoning suggests that this sector suffers from similar problems. CRC's Michael Hartmann reviews Woke, Inc. from a donor perspective here.
- Of course the SEIU is boosting mail-in voting
The Service Employees International Union (SEIU) has endorsed a mailer that distributes partly pre-filled applications for absentee ballots. The Center for Voter Information will be sending the mailers to Virginia voters ahead of the state gubernatorial election to bolster Democratic turnout. As experts have noted, mail-in voting is susceptible to "fraud, coercion, bribery, and vote-buying." Hayden Ludwig follows the money here.
BLM Supports Police (If They’re Communists)
The dominant Black Lives Matter (BLM) group, Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation, issued an official statement this summer throwing their support behind the brutal Communist regime in Cuba as state police beat, terrorized, and rounded up Cuban protestors who had taken to the streets demanding freedom. It also blamed the United States for Cuba’s problems: "The People of Cuba are being punished by the U.S. government because the country has maintained its commitment to sovereignty and self-determination."
BLM Global Network Foundation appears to care more about leftist ideology than black lives.
