Hi, John — Wendy Davis here. I’m emailing you today because I’m worried about the state of abortion rights in this country. Please let me explain:
Last week Democrats in Congress passed the Women's Health Protection Act (WHPA) despite the opposition of Republicans. In the face of laws like Texas’ SB8 which bans abortions before most people even realize they are pregnant, the Act seeks to assure that the constitutional right to abortion care provided by Roe v. Wade will be upheld. Only one Democrat in the entire country voted with Republicans to block this critical safeguard for abortion access. And that “Democrat” is Rep. Henry Cuellar.
Cuellar has spent the last 15 years siding with Republicans on a number of issues, including unyielding opposition to abortion rights. And in my opinion, any Texas Congressperson who has seen the devastating impacts of SB8 on his constituents and still refuses to defend the right to choose doesn’t deserve to represent our state.
With the future of Roe v. Wade on the line, Texans need a representative in Congress who will fight for reproductive justice and not cater to Republicans and the anti-choice lobby. That’s why I’m proud to endorse Jessica Cisneros for Congress. But for her to win her race, she needs the support of grassroots activists right away. Can you make a contribution today?

As a former Texas state senator, I know what happens when we keep anti-choice politicians in power. They find ways to trample on our constitutional rights — including this most recent attack on abortion access, which includes no exceptions for rape or incest.
That’s why we cannot keep Henry Cuellar in Congress any longer. Rep. Cuellar joined with Republicans to support the continuation of a law that is so extreme it would prohibit even a 13 year-old-girl impregnated by a family member from accessing abortion. He has consistently refused to defend South Texans’ reproductive freedom and has chosen time and time again to align himself with his Republican allies and turn his back on Texans and our health care needs.
But Jessica Cisneros has always advocated for the best interests of women, including access to the reproductive healthcare we need to provide us with autonomy over our own bodies and our futures. Jessica believes that it’s high time we codify Roe v. Wade and repeal the Hyde Amendment to make abortion accessible and affordable. As a congresswoman, I know Jessica will defend the right to choose for every Texan and will help people who can become pregnant to control their own reproductive destinies.
