Dear Reader,

Roe must fall.

That’s the simple contention behind our recent October issue of First Things, which features a symposium on the end of Roe v. Wade. The symposium writers challenge America’s abortion regime using arguments rooted in ethics, law, and public policy. This is the type of clear and confident thinking needed to end the nearly 50-year reign of the culture of death. And it is the type of thinking that readers like you have come to expect in the pages of First Things.
First Things invites readers into conversations on the issues that matter most. Help us deepen the conversation by making a gift today. ([link removed])

For years, First Things magazine has been a place for readers to follow thoughtful—sometimes spirited—conversation on key questions of faith and public life. More recently, we’ve provided a series of programs to deepen the conversation beyond the pages of the magazine. Programs like the Intellectual Retreats, reading groups, annual lecture in Washington, D.C., and our podcast series invite readers to engage these questions in community with others.

These programs require resources that are not accounted for with subscription revenue. In fact, subscriptions make up less than one-third of our annual budget. And because we want to welcome readers that are ministers, teachers, or students, we strive to keep any program fees as low as possible and to make scholarships available to those who need them.

This is what we set out to achieve through our 2021 Fall Appeal, which seeks to raise $100,000 by October 31, from readers of First Things like you.

Will you deepen the conversation and help us reach our Fall Appeal goal by making a tax-deductible contribution to First Things today? ([link removed])

If you are a first-time First Things donor who gives $100 or more, we’d be delighted to send you a bumper car magnet as a token of our gratitude for your support. (If you’ve already given $100 or more, I hope you’ve already received your magnet in the mail! Please let us know if you have not.)

Thank you for giving generously to First Things and thank you for being a part of our community. ([link removed])

Sincerely,

Carter Skeel
