New BJS Deputy Director, Kevin Scott

Kevin Scott is the new deputy director of the Statistical Operations Division at BJS. Kevin has a wealth of subject matter expertise, statistical knowledge, and management skills. He has been with BJS since July of 2017, where he served as chief of the Law Enforcement Statistics Unit and supervised data collections that covered federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies and training academies, forensic laboratories, and medical examiners and coroners? offices. Additionally, he supervised the federal justice statistics program and prosecution and judicial statistics. Prior to joining BJS, Kevin served as an analyst for the Congressional Research Service, as an analyst for the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts, and as the director of the Policy Analysis Unit in DOJ?s Office of Legal Policy. Kevin earned his Ph.D. and M.A. in Political Science at The Ohio State University, and his B.A. in Political Science at the University of Oklahoma (Norman).



The Bureau of Justice Statistics of the U.S. Department of Justice is the principal federal agency responsible for collecting, analyzing, and disseminating reliable statistics on crime and criminal justice in the United States. Doris J. James is the acting director.
