John,
Earlier this month, advocates from across D.C. and the LGBTQ community
participated in a marathon session of the District Council to fight
for passage of the Community Health and Safety Amendment. This law
would remove criminal penalties for consensual sex work between adults
while empowering communities to promote safety, access life-saving
resources, and fight human trafficking. This issue is very important
to the trans community - as many as one in eight transgender people
have engaged in sex work in their lifetime, according to our US
Transgender Survey.

NCTE is proud to be among the organizations supporting the
decriminalization of sex work. Sex workers are our neighbors,
classmates, community leaders, caregivers, and organizers.
Decriminalization of sex work is a key step in addressing socially
isolating stigam, and the widespread systemic abuse of LGBTQ people by
law enforcement.
Now, John,
you have the power to help us push this amendment through to passage.
Any current resident of the District of Columbia can submit a written
testimony by midnight on November 1, 2019 in favor of the bill.
We've set up an Action Center to make this simple and quick -
will you commit to taking five minutes to support sex work
decriminalization to enhance the health and safety of our most
vulnerable community members?

Thank you.
In Solidarity,
