In our first week, 926 members (and counting!) renewed their membership or made their first-ever gift to EDF. What's more, 201 of them doubled their impact with a new monthly gift, matched for a full year!

EDF’s fall membership drive is a chance for you to take a big step towards a better, more livable future by making your first gift to EDF. Your membership, good for the rest of 2021 and all of 2022, will be activated immediately.

Please take a few minutes and be one of the first to activate your 2022 membership now. Make the most of your gift by donating at least $35 or starting a monthly gift of at least $5 to unlock a $1-for-$1 new member match from the Wilson Charitable Trust. New monthly gifts will be matched for 12 months, doubling your impact for a full year.

According to a recent analysis by the Washington Post, nearly 1 in 3 U.S. residents live in a county that was hit by an extreme weather disaster this summer. Nearly 2 in 3 of us live in places that experienced a multi-day, deadly heat wave.

A crisis this big demands an equally big solution. That’s why we’ve set a goal of renewing or activating 4,000 EDF members over the next four weeks.

When so many committed individuals go all in together, we can turn today’s climate disasters into tomorrow’s clean energy and climate successes.

Thanks to the tireless efforts of EDF members, in the last year alone:
 

• Congress overturned the Trump administration’s reckless rollback of common-sense Obama-era regulations limiting easily avoidable methane pollution from oil and gas industry operations. EDF members sent thousands of messages to their Congressional representatives advocating a return to critical pollution safeguards, and Congress listened.
• President Biden announced historic goals to ensure that by no later than 2030, half of all new cars sold in the U.S. will be zero-emitting. Nearly all of the world’s largest automakers have announced plans to ramp up electric vehicle production - a transportation revolution that will spur the creation of high-paying new jobs for workers who will build these vehicles, and save motorists thousands in avoided fuel costs.
• With your financial support, our forest policy experts helped establish a new Emergent Forest Finance Accelerator. Emergent’s LEAF Coalition recently secured a commitment of more than $1 billion worth of forest carbon credits to protect tropical and subtropical forests. These forests are critical carbon sinks, and vital to slowing global warming.

These successes are only the beginning. We envision a future with zero net climate emissions, and we have a plan to get there. 

By accelerating our transition to zero-emission vehicles and 100% clean electricity, and by protecting the natural resources that can protect us from climate threats - like forests, wetlands, marshes and barrier islands - we can achieve net zero climate emissions across the entire U.S. economy no later than 2050.
