This week, President Obama urged Congress to take action against our nation’s gun violence epidemic – and it could not be a more critically important time for this action to happen.

Shootings are on the rise across the country – we read about it in the news each weekend – in fact, 2021 is on track to be the deadliest year for gun violence in recent memory. We can’t wait for more lives to be senselessly taken, John.

During his presidency, following the tragic shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School, Obama attempted to pass common sense gun violence prevention legislation, but he was stonewalled at every turn by Mitch McConnell and other NRA-funded politicians in Congress. And while the gun lobby held Congress in a vice grip, countless lives were lost to gun violence. Lives that should’ve been protected.
|
But right now, we are in a different moment – a hopeful one. With gun safety champions in Congress and the White House, we have a real chance to pass lifesaving legislation, like expanded Brady Background Checks and an assault weapons ban, but we can’t allow our lawmakers to sit idly by any longer.

Will you stand with President Obama, Brady, and gun violence prevention activists across the country right now? Demand that Congress take action to prevent gun violence and save lives.
