John --
First, I want to assure you this is NOT a
fundraising email. Today, I'd like to inspire you to action.
I thought of our movement, and folks like you who bring it to life,
when I read a fascinating
yet distressing piece in the Washington Post
yesterday about a new poll that shows just how gravely ill the country
we love has become. I instantly knew I had to share it with you (it's
short and worth your time).
Here are a few of the stats:
- More than 80 percent of Biden and Trump voters agree that
elected officials of the other party “present a clear and present
danger to American democracy.”
- More than 70 percent of both sets of voters believe that
some extreme media voices on the other side should be censored
“despite the U.S. Constitution’s First Amendment.”
- More than 75 percent of Biden and Trump voters believe that
Americans who strongly support the opposite party also threaten the
American way of life.
- More than 60 percent of Biden voters and roughly 80 percent
of Trump voters believe things like “true citizen[s]” should “help
eliminate the evil that poisons our country from within” and America
“needs a powerful leader to destroy the radical and immoral currents
prevailing in society today.”
- 45 percent of Biden and Trump voters say America would be
better off if the president could take “needed actions without being
constrained by the Congress or the courts.” In other words, a
dictator.
Poll results like these are a warning -- if we continue down this
path, we're headed for trouble. And we shouldn't presume it could
only come from one party.
But the column also has some good news: When we've found ourselves
toxically polarized before (which has happened many times, all the way
back to the early days of the republic), a movement has almost always
risen up to lower the temperature and marginalize the extreme elements
in both parties.
That's where the Country First movement comes in, made up of
reasonable people of goodwill from across the country and political
spectrum. I'm excited for the good work we'll do, and hopeful that,
together, we can be the difference.
That's where we're headed; that's how we'll heal this sickness;
that's how we'll save our country.
Country First,
Adam

family members who you feel would find it valuable. Spreading the word
about Country First makes all the difference!
