Congresswoman Lesko Weekly Update

Good Afternoon,

As you might have heard, this week, I remained in Arizona where I underwent surgery to remove my gallbladder. I am pleased to report that the surgery is over, and I am recovering at home. I want to thank everyone who has taken the time to extend prayers and well wishes over the last several days. I appreciate all of the support.

I am still continuing to monitor all that is happening in the U.S. House of Representatives and remaining in touch with constituents and local leaders about all that is happening in our community. As always, my staff in both my Washington, D.C. Office and Surprise District Office are available to assist constituents.

Legislative Update

This week, I joined my colleagues to urge the U.S. Marine Corps Commandant to release Marine Corps Lieutenant Colonel Stuart Scheller from pretrial confinement. Our letter calls out the inappropriate handling of Lt. Col. Scheller, who was jailed by the Marine Corps for openly criticizing the Biden Administration’s senior military leadership over the botched and chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan. I look forward to seeing the release of Lt. Col. Scheller!

I also joined Congresswoman Stephanie Bice (R-OK) to strongly urge the removal of Red Flag law provisions that violate the Second Amendment from the National Defense Authorization Act. These dangerous provisions give authority to military courts to prevent servicemembers from “possessing, receiving, or otherwise accessing a firearm.” It is unconscionable to deny our troops their rights to keep and bear arms.

GET THE FACTS: Biden’s Worsening Border Crisis

As you likely heard, as many as 400,000 migrants are heading to the U.S. border. This unprecedented number doubles the numbers we have seen the past two months, which were already at a 21-year high. Our facilities have exceeded capacity – with some facilities exceeding their capacity by more than seven times the number of men, women, and children. I am absolutely appalled by the crisis at our border and will continue to work with my colleagues to hold the Biden Administration accountable for this disaster.

Around the District

This week, Monica from our office presented Sunshine Service, a nonprofit in Sun City, AZ, with a Congressional Recognition for serving the community through lending vital medical and children’s equipment to local residents!

This week, our office enjoyed meeting with constituents and helping them with issues related to federal agencies at the Sun City Senior Expo! The Sun City Senior Expo focuses on assisting those in our community who are fifty years old or older.

Encouraging Story

I am pleased to share this story about courageous Peoria Police Officer Kyle Trouton, who rescued a man jumping from the second floor of his burning house by catching him to prevent him from hitting the ground. The man was hanging on to the balcony as his house was engulfed in flames. As the man jumped, Officer Trouton caught him. Officer Trouton is a true hero!

Casework Highlight

A constituent reached out to our office because the chiropractic office they use was not receiving payments from the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) for himself and multiple veterans. Our office reached out to the VA and was able to ensure the payments were made resulting in the constituent not being liable for the payments.

Mobile Office Hours

Our office is hosting Mobile Office Hours this Tuesday, October 5, 2021, at the El Mirage City Council Chambers Lobby from 10:00 AM-12:00 PM AZ Time! Our casework team is ready to answer your questions and assist you if you are having issues with a federal agency.
