Resuming Energy Lease Sales in the Gulf of Mexico
This week, the U.S. Interior Department announced that it is moving ahead with a previously-canceled lease sale in the Gulf of Mexico. The bids will be announced on November 17, 2021.
I’m happy to see the Biden Administration come to grips with the reality that they don’t have the authority to ban oil and gas leasing in the Gulf of Mexico, and I thank Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry for filing the lawsuit that ultimately led to this illegal ban being overruled. This lease sale will bring critical dollars to Louisiana for coastal restoration and flood protection.
The Biden Administration needs to abandon the radical Green New Deal and recognize that the vast majority of American families support an all-of-the-above energy strategy that promotes responsible energy exploration and development focused on lower costs and more energy security.
Tax-and-Spending Spree is Bad for Louisiana
Yesterday, I co-authored an op-ed in The Advocate with Senator John Kennedy and Representatives Garret Graves, Clay Higgins, Mike Johnson, and Julia Letlow explaining our opposition to Congressional Democrats' linked $5.5 trillion infrastructure and reconciliation package currently under consideration in the U.S. House of Representatives. This socialist grab bag enhances President Biden's reckless agenda through massive new spending, Green New Deal policies, and large tax increases that would decimate families, workers, and small businesses.
We expressed our full support for responsibly investing in Louisiana's infrastructure needs, but noted that this trillion-dollar infrastructure and reconciliation package provides less than 10 percent of new funding for roads and bridges and shortchanges states like Louisiana in favor of disproportionately bankrolling infrastructure in cities like San Francisco, New York, Chicago, Boston, Los Angeles, and other political supporters of the Biden Administration and Speaker Pelosi.

Meeting with Local Officials to Discuss Louisiana Priorities
I enjoyed meeting with Jean Lafitte Mayor Tim Kerner, Jr., and Representative Tim Kerner in Washington this week to talk about flood protection efforts in the wake of Hurricane Ida. We must protect our coastal communities, and I'm continuing to fight for flood protection and coastal restoration in southeast Louisiana.
I also caught up with State Senator Sharon Hewitt to talk about priorities for the Northshore.
