John, today is International Wrongful Conviction Day.

On this day, we recognize all of those who have been negatively impacted by our criminal legal system, especially those who’ve been wrongly incarcerated.

Here at the Innocence Project, our clients have spent a collective 3,555 years behind bars for crimes they did not commit because of things like eyewitness misidentification, flawed forensic methods, and misconduct by police and prosecutors. We’re working every day to build a more just and equitable system and free innocent people.

But we can’t do that without you. Our lawyers work on each case for an average of seven years — so sustaining their efforts takes a lot of funding.

That’s why today, in honor of Wrongful Conviction Day, we’re asking you to become a monthly donor to ensure we can keep doing this work for as long as it takes to achieve justice for the innocent:

It’s going to take all of us to change this system, and we’re so glad to have you by our side.

Thanks for everything,

— The Innocence Project Team

Started in 1992 as a legal clinic at Cardozo School of Law, the Innocence Project is now an independent nonprofit, affiliated with Cardozo, that exonerates the wrongly convicted through DNA testing and reforms the criminal justice system to prevent future injustice.
