Amazon: Don't use dangerous chemicals to make our clothes!

Dear Friend,

Did you know Amazon is now the #1 retailer of clothes for men, women, AND children in the U.S.?

And did you know that textile manufacturing is the #2 water polluter on Earth?

Most people don’t realize that when we buy clothing through Amazon the
chemicals used to make those clothes are not restricted, which means we are most likely dressing ourselves and our families in toxic textiles.

That’s why I’m asking for your support today.

Over 8,000 chemicals are used to make clothing, and many of them, even after you wash a garment, are hazardous to human health and the environment.

And the big problem is that Amazon has no publicly available policies on chemical management for apparel, in an industry barely regulated by the federal government—which means Amazon’s marketplace is like the Wild West for clothing manufacturers.

They can make whatever they want, however they want, and as long as it sells, Amazon doesn’t give a hoot!

Donate today so we can create the pressure we need to get Amazon to end toxic textiles. And when you do, we'll send you one-year of Green America publications, including Your Green Life, the Green American magazine, and our Guide to Social Investing and Better Banking

Of course, you may not be too surprised by all this. It’s not like Amazon is known for transparency or social responsibility! But don’t give up on getting them to change…

Over the last two years, Green Americans like you have pushed Amazon to the table and gotten them to make commitments to 100% renewable energy use. That’s a win!

We can do the same for toxic textiles and worker safety!
Your support is the key

Thanks to our members’ support, we’ve scored other big wins with Godiva, CVS, JPMorgan Chase bank, and many other corporate giants. Let’s keep the momentum going!

When we work together, we can improve health and safety for everyone, advance social justice and equity, and make our world greener and healthier.

Thanks for your urgent attention!

P.S.  Amazon made over $20 billion in profits last year. They can afford to establish a manufacturing restricted substances list (MSRL) for
textiles to keep workers and customers safe from dangerous chemicals. Amazon won’t do any of these things unless you and I put the pressure on them now!
