Here are some important details about today's Rally for Abortion Justice:
Where to go, and when: We'll be meeting at Freedom Plaza at 11:00 a.m. (1455 Pennsylvania Ave NW, Washington, D.C. 20004) — and the rally will begin at noon!
March Route:
Who will be there:
The rally will be hosted by Latina comedian and activist Cristela Alonzo, and will feature speakers from all across our coalition for abortion justice. They'll also be joined by celebrity guest speakers Busy Philipps and Schuyler Bailar.
We’ll hear from:
- Hope and Gabrielle, Women of Where the Waters Blend
- Rachel Carmona, Executive Director of Women’s March
- Dr. Jamila Perritt, President and CEO, Physicians for Reproductive Health
- Alexis McGill Johnson, President and CEO, Planned Parenthood
- Rev. Erika Forbes, Just TX
- Anna Li, Jane’s Due Process client & Deeds Not Words policy intern
- Kenya Martin aka Abortion Diva
- Margie Del Castillo, National Latina Institute for Reproductive Justice
- Marsha Jones, The Afiya Center
- Monica Simpson, SisterSong
New Orleans-based band The Soul Rebels (@TheSoulRebels on Facebook and Instagram) and singer-songwriter Adeline will be performing and energizing the crowd at the rally as we get pumped up to march from Freedom Plaza to the steps of the United States Supreme Court.
What to bring:
- A mask – first and foremost – and extra hand sanitizer.
- Comfortable walking shoes and layers. Maybe a hat!
- A reusable water bottle and some snacks (it will be a long day!)
- Your signs, banners, t-shirts, and flags. We can’t wait to see the full creativity of this movement on display.
What NOT to bring:
- You should not bring any weapons, or anything that can be construed as a weapon.
- No coat hanger imagery. We do not want to accidentally reenforce the Right-wing talking points that self-managed abortions are dangerous, scary and harmful.
- No Handmaid’s Tale Imagery. The use of Handmaid's Tale imagery to characterize the controlling of women’s reproduction has proliferated, primarily by white women across the country, since the show has gained popularity. This message continues to create more fragmentation, often around race and class, because it erases the fact that Black women, undocumented women, incarcerated women, poor women, disabled women have always had their reproduction controlled in this country its not some dystopic future or past. This is just a heightened attack.
- Many attendees may have substance sensitivities, and we will be in close quarters, please avoid smoking or wearing strong fragrances so that all can participate.
COVID-19 Safety:
We’re taking COVID-19 protocols very seriously. Everyone is required to wear a mask and practice social distancing. If you feel ill, please stay home.
Day-of Alerts:
Text “DCMarch” to 44310 to get live alerts during the march that will signal key moments.
Accessibility:
Our coalition is committed to making this rally accessible. We are also dedicated to our goal of making all participants feel welcome, safe, heard, thought of, and cared for. A comprehensive list of Accessibility information can be found here.
Thank you so much to each and every one of you for making this possible. We can’t wait to see you today.
