Hi John,
It’s scary after the hellish climate summer many of us had, but it’s the truth: this is what the climate looks like at “only” 1.2 or 1.3 degrees of warming.
How awful will it be at 2, 3, or — heaven forbid — 5 degrees?
This last summer showed us that now is not the time for half measures.
So when you hear the news talking about the cost of the two big bills in Congress right now, consider this:
Our annual military budget is $778 billion per year.
The reconciliation bill: $350 billion per year.
The infrastructure bill: $110 billion per year.
In other words, the two bills cost only 59% of what we spend on the military every year.
Bailing out Wall Street and the Pentagon, which can’t even pass an audit, goes through Congress without so much as a whimper. Yet when it comes to saving our planet, suddenly the price tag is an issue.
The double standard is ridiculous. If I were in Congress right now, I’d be in the Progressive Caucus holding the line, because the climate is too important to back down on.
There will be more climate fights to come, and I want to fight them for you in Congress. Please make a quick, small donation here so I can:
