John: It's that time of year - when bigots come out of the woodwork to lob last minute attacks at LGBTQ candidates. We've seen a huge uptick, including digital ads against Ali Brown (she's running to be the first openly LGBTQ woman elected to the Indianapolis City-County Council!) that attack her for being endorsed by Victory Fund. The best way to stop attacks like these? Win on Election Day. Chip in now to send another bigoted opponent packing. If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately: But that's not all our candidates have to deal with: Pete Buttigieg is under attack from homophobes yet again. Pete's surging in Iowa, coming in third in the latest polls. He's a viable contender for the Presidency - and bigots can't stand that he's LGBTQ! During a recent event in Ohio, a far-right activist railed against Mayor Pete's campaign, saying "homosexuality should become 'unthinkable' in America," followed by this outrageous statement: "When he wants to be president of the United States, I want to do some scrutiny on what type of moral character this guy has. And I’m just telling you this: if this guy’s moral character involves doing what I believe he does have to do in order to have an orgasm, I got a problem with it (...) We need to make homosexuality unthinkable again. It needs to go back in the closet.” And the attacks didn't end there: a county commissioner in Tennessee also launched a rant against Pete's candidacy, saying a "queer running for president" is "about as ugly as you can get". With your help, we can vote these bigots out. Donate today! Meanwhile, our two candidates in Doraville, GA - Joseph Geierman, running to be the first openly LGBTQ mayor ever elected in Doraville, and Andy Yeoman, who will be the second openly LGBTQ person elected to the Doraville City Council - have found mysterious flyers circulating in their neighborhoods. These flyers incorrectly claim that LGBTQ people in Georgia will enjoy special protections if Joseph and Andy are elected. And they also attempt to use transgender people as a boogeyman to scare voters, twisting anti-discrimination laws into an attack against straight and cis citizens. It's truly unfortunate that in 2019 we're still seeing attacks like these against our amazing candidates. John, we know you agree that we need to come together as a community to fight these types of attacks. Donate today so we can defend our community. Thank you, Elliot Senior Director of Communications, LGBTQ Victory Fund |
