Friend,
The harms of the drug war are clear: death, corruption, and irreparable harm to individuals and families. Yet, some people in power think the answer is to double down on this cruel and senseless drug war.
You and I both know punitive approaches are the problem, not the solution.
At the Drug Policy Alliance, we are fighting for sensible drug policies grounded in science, compassion, health, and human rights. For too long, the war on drugs has destroyed lives, violated human rights, and cost the United States more than $47 billion in taxpayer funds each year.
The war on drugs has not made our society safer, healthier, or more just. It has done just the opposite.
Friend, we’re asking for your help on behalf of people swept up in the 1.4 million arrests made for simple drug possession each year, on behalf of the 68,000 people who died from a drug overdose in 2018, and on behalf of everyone who has been irreparably harmed by this reckless war on drugs. But we need you to fight alongside us. Will you join the Drug Policy Alliance in the fight for just, compassionate drug policies with a gift of $8, $15, $30, or more today?
- For people spending years behind bars for low-level marijuana offenses, even though it is now legal in many states;
- For low-income communities and communities of color that have been unfairly punished by an overly harsh criminal justice system;
- For lives that can be saved by overdose-reversing drugs like Naloxone and other harm reduction tools;
For the millions of people who need a helping hand, rather than a criminal record, and so many more, I hope you will join us in this fight.
Members are the driving force behind our work. I invite you to join our team. We have a lot of work yet to do, undoing the harm of the disastrous war on drugs, and promoting a more just society. We need your help.
DPA has been at the forefront of the fight for sensible drug policy reform – and basic human rights – for nearly two decades. With your important partnership, we’ll continue to stand on the right side of history. Take a look at what we have already achieved:
- Successful marijuana legalization ballot initiatives in 9 states to date – DPA is the only organization that played a role in every single one!
- Passage of legislation in California that automated the expungement process for 200,000+ individuals with prior convictions – model legislation that is the first step toward restorative justice for those burdened by drug law convictions.
- Expanded access to live-saving overdose-reversing drugs like Naloxone, and advocacy for overdose prevention centers that promote health, dignity, and education for those struggling with drug addiction.
Activists like you are fueling a future where we can make this a reality. Our victories in legislatures and at the ballot box are just the beginning. You can help us do more with your gift today.
The fight ahead may seem difficult, but one thing is for certain – with you by our side, we will end the war on drugs. Can we count on you?

P.S. Did you know that simple drug possession is the most arrested offense in the United States? We can’t let arresting people be our primary drug policy. For the millions of people who need a helping hand, rather than a criminal record, I hope you will join us in this fight for sensible drug policy reform today.
