John,

Four years ago today, a gunman brought a cache of automatic weapons to a hotel room in Las Vegas and used them to open fire on the crowd gathered below. In a matter of minutes, 59 people had been murdered, marking the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history at the time.

The night was never supposed to end like this. The people killed and injured in this massacre were there for a concert: a night of music, dancing, joy. It breaks my heart to think about how many times we've had to sit by and watch joyful moments –– or even mundane ones, walking between classes or opening your own front door –– turn into unimaginable nightmares. And it boils my blood to know these tragedies could have all been prevented if the NRA's pocket politicians like Mitch McConnell hadn't had a vise grip on gun safety laws in this country.

Not enough has changed in the last four years. But this has: Mitch McConnell has lost his ironclad grip on the Senate. And that means the door is finally open to real change.

Gun safety champions are back in the majority — and, with President Biden and Vice President Harris in the White House, we finally have an opportunity to make meaningful change to save lives from gun violence.

But that change can't happen without you, John – that's why I'm asking for your help today. In honor of those killed in the Las Vegas shooting four years ago today, we're asking 2,500 gun violence prevention champions like you to affirm their commitment to this fight before 11:59 p.m. tonight. But we're still missing your response, so tell us now:

Should Congress take action to ban military-style assault weapons?

Thanks for speaking out,
