On *Tuesday*,?Ohio Governor Mike DeWine and First Lady Fran DeWine toured the Manufacturing Technology Center of Excellence (MTC) at Cuyahoga Community College in Cleveland. MTC is working to develop a workforce ready to support the projected 2 million manufacturing jobs that will go unfilled due to a growing skills gap over the next decade.

Governor Jon Husted traveled to Xenia to make an announcement with Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities (OOD), Wilberforce University, and Central State University regarding the expansion?of Ohio College2Careers, a program that supports college students with disabilities.

Additionally, on *Tuesday*, Lt. Governor Husted visited Nissen Chemitec America in London to tour the facility and learn about the success they have had using TechCred. TechCred helps businesses address their workforce needs by upskilling current and prospective employees by offering a reimbursement of up to $2,000 for each credential earned.

Governor Husted traveled to Lancaster to tour the Fairfield County Workforce Center to learn about the training programs they offer to prepare Ohioans for in-demand jobs and earn industry-recognized credentials. Later that day, he spoke to students at Logan-Hocking Middle School about career pathways.

Later on *Wednesday*, Lt. Governor Husted,?Director of InnovateOhio, was joined by Lydia Mihalik, Director of the Ohio Department of Development, Washington County Commissioners, Fairfield Township Trustees, representatives from the Southeast Ohio Broadband Cooperative (SEOBC), and local residents in Cutler to announce a new pilot project that will expand broadband in the area to hundreds of households using local, state-owned MARCS towers.
The innovative project builds upon the goal of BroadbandOhio by enhancing and expanding high-speed internet access to unserved and underserved Ohioans, particularly those in the Appalachia region of the state, by creatively leveraging state assets.
?BroadbandOhio worked with the Southeast Ohio Broadband Cooperative and local leaders to creatively use existing infrastructure to expand high-speed internet at an affordable rate for people who need it,? said Lt. Governor Husted. ?Through this partnership, these state-owned MARCS towers can connect hundreds of households in Washington County to broadband.?

JobsOhio and the Ohio Department of Development both collaborated on the expansion project with other state and local entities. Once complete, the expansion will lead to the creation of nearly 100 new jobs.?

On *Friday*, Governor DeWine traveled to three manufacturing facilities in Toledo, Youngstown, and Strongsville in recognition of Manufacturing Day. He discussed?Ohio's strong economic outlook and workforce development accomplishments.
First, the Governor toured?Libbey Glass [ [link removed] ],?one of the world?s largest manufacturers of glass tableware. Ohio is the top manufacturer of glass in the United States.

Additionally, on *Friday*, Ohio Department of Health (ODH) Director Bruce Vanderhoff, MD, MBA, and Ohio Lottery Commission Director Pat McDonald provided an update [ [link removed] ] on the Ohio Vax-2-School program, announcing that the prize money has been doubled to a total of $2 million in scholarships.
Beginning Monday, Oct. 4, Ohioans aged 12-25 can enter online at www.ohiovax2school.com [ [link removed] ] or by phone at 1-833-4-ASK-ODH (1-833-427-5634) to win one of 150, $10,000 scholarships, or one of five, $100,000 grand prize scholarships. The scholarships, awarded in Ohio 529 College Advantage plans, can be used at the Ohio college, university, technical/trade school, or career program of the winner?s choice. The Ohio Department of Health is using a portion of its Coronavirus Relief Funds to fund this innovative public outreach campaign and initiative.
In addition, the state hopes to expand the age group to include younger Ohioans.
?We are hearing promising news following the clinical trial and safety data submitted to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) by Pfizer for their COVID-19 vaccine for 5 to 11-year-olds,? explained Ohio Department of Health Director Dr. Bruce Vanderhoff. ?In anticipation of a COVID-19 vaccine being authorized for children as young as 5 in the near future, we have decided to broaden the Ohio Vax-2-School program to include this age group, should they become eligible for vaccines.?
