My Fellow Young Democrats-
My Fellow Young Democrats-
Welcome to Knocktober!
Now is the time to get off the sidelines and get into the game if you haven’t already. We are just 32 days away from Election Day and time is running out. There is no time like the present.
If you haven’t seen it, Cook Political ruled Virginia a Toss Up. This is the closest we have ever been in our statewide elections since 2013 when Terry McAuliffe was first elected.
We cannot allow 2021 to be another 2009. After we won back in 2008 and elected the first Black President after 2 terms of disarray, we took our foot off the gas and we ended up with a Republican administration. And it’s not out of the realm of possibility. We have too much on the line to stop now. We have fought too hard and have come too far to turn back now.
When we are going out here and campaigning this year or if people are feeling a little tired, we need to remind ourselves: as goes Virginia so goes the Nation. We have to elect Terry McAuliffe for Governor, Hala Ayala for Lt. Governor, and Mark Herring for Attorney General because the stakes are too high and we know that Democrats will deliver on this issue. And this time when Terry is Governor, we’re going to make sure that he won’t have to veto any more bills that will limit the right to choose because we are going to expand our majority here in the House of Delegates.
This election is the first test of Democratic support during Biden’s first term and we have to show our strength. This is a turnout election. We know that there are more Democrats than there are Republicans in Virginia. We have seen the numbers. That’s why I am asking you one thing:
Commit 2 weekends of your time to getting the vote out between now and November 2.
2 weekends. That’s it.
Right now, the most important thing you can donate to Virginia is your time. Just 1 or 2 phone bank shifts can go a long way in this election. Virginia has been trending Blue, but it is not a solid Blue state. We have to throw everything we can behind our Democrats in Virginia.
You also can do a lot organizing your own networks in Virginia. Think about who you know who might need to register to vote - or who might know someone who does. People you work with or go to school with. People with siblings or kids who are seniors in high school and might have just turned 18. They might not vote if you don't ask them.
We have so many opportunities for you to get involved.
We have weekly canvasses on the weekends with AYD and VAYD. Coming up we have:
We also have plenty of opportunities to get involved here in Arlington: If you can’t make that, you can join Virginia Young Dems every Thursday until election Day.
We have 32 days. Make every one of them count. Until Next Time, Matt Royer AYD President
