Hi Friend,
Wow. WOW. It's safe to say that our Fall Mixer last night at Metrobar exceeded expectations: in turnout, in energy, and in dollars raised (more than $23,000!).
Before we all head into the weekend, I wanted to write to say thank you for being part of it. (And if you weren’t able to make it, we missed you!)
That was Greater Greater Washington's first in-person event in about two years. As many of you shared with me last night, it was for you, too. Being able to gather together felt truly special.
I started at GGWash a little less than five months ago. I knew at the outset that the community of support that surrounds this organization would make it different from any other place I've worked. But seeing it in-person, in the form of 350 friends, still left me awestruck.
GGWash is in a pivotal moment, with new leadership, an expanding board, and the ever-evolving pandemic context. We're undertaking a strategic planning process. We're working hard to climb out of a budget deficit. We want to build on this organization's strong foundation and grow the work in so many ways.
The way forward, without a doubt, involves you.
I'm asking you to think about continuing the momentum from last night. Together, we can make this region more affordable, more accessible, more sustainable, and more equitable. Here are some ideas:
Last night was invigorating. As one person tweeted, "As an urbanist it can feel kind of lonely. Like I’m a voice crying out in the wilderness. The GGWash community makes me realize many people believe in the cause."
Please join me in thanking the GGWash staff, volunteers, and the team at Metrobar who did so much hard work to create that experience and make the night a success.
Let's do it again, shall we? And make this region greater while we're at it.
Yours,
Chelsea Allinger Executive Director
P.S. How many times do you think the words, "So good to meet you outside of Twitter!" were uttered last night? To quote @sharrowsDC, "good twitter IRL [last night] everybody."
