Good afternoon friend,
As you know, the all-important Second Reading of Baroness Meacher’s Assisted Dying Bill will take place on the 22nd October 2021 - just three weeks from today.
Over the last week supporters like you have sent more than 2,000 personal letters to Peers, persuading them to attend and speak in our favour. This is a huge achievement - but it’s vital we also have a strong in-person presence outside the House of Lords on the day. Can you join us in Westminster to demonstrate in support of the Bill and encourage Peers to say ‘Yes to Dignity’?
When: 9am-3pm
Where: George V Statue, Old Palace Yard, Westminster, London, SW1A 0PW
Register: On eventbrite
In previous years, our numbers have been strong and the demo has added great energy and motivation to Peers on the day - but this year needs to be bigger and better to show Parliament that support for this Bill is stronger than ever.
We know from experience that opponents will turn up in force. Their scaremongering tactics and refusal to engage with the testimony of dying people mustn’t be allowed to dominate the day. The more Dignity in Dying supporters turn out to back the Bill, the louder our message of hope, compassion and reason will resonate with Peers.
We need an assisted dying law that is safe, fair and compassionate and we need it now. To make the most out of every opportunity on the road to law change, we need you to join us and take a stand for dignity and choice on the 22nd October.
You can read more about what will happen on the day on our eventbrite page. If you’re intending to come please do register as we’ll only send any final details to those who have told us they’re planning to attend. The plans are subject to change based on public health and safety advice, so please keep an eye out for any emails from us or Eventbrite before the event.
Looking forward to seeing you there!
All the best,
P.S. We’ve tried to make this demo as accessible as possible and there are instructions for step free public transport on our event page. If you’d like to attend but have any concerns about how you could take part in the day, please don’t hesitate to get in touch at [email protected].
