Dear AHS friends, partners, and supporters,
I am writing to let you know that, after five meaningful years, I will be stepping away from my role as Executive Director of the Alliance for Housing Solutions as of November 30th. As my time with the organization comes to a close, I have been reflecting on all that I have learned from you and the tremendous positive impact we have made together in our community. I am inspired by your dedication to the well-being of Arlington’s lower-income residents and to creating a more welcoming, affordable, and inclusive Arlington for Everyone.
AHS is such a unique organization, and I have been honored to be able to lead its vital work during such a transformational time. My five-year tenure coincided with the first five years of the County’s Affordable Housing Master Plan. So much has happened during this period – an updated Accessory Dwelling ordinance, the creation of the Housing Conservation District, expanded bonus density for affordable housing, increases in funding for the Affordable Housing Investment Fund (AHIF), and Housing Grants. Newer initiatives such as the Missing Middle Housing Study and a regional Fair Housing plan are on the path to completion. AHS has also been transformed through the leadership of new board members and an energized community of advocates and partners who continually push the housing agenda forward.
I joined AHS in 2016 so that I could put my knowledge of housing issues and passion for inclusive communities to use right here in my own backyard. I’m proud of the many successes we have accomplished together, although I know there is still so much critical work to do. I believe AHS’s successful track record and solid foundation will allow its next leader to build on our strong momentum. I look forward to continuing as an active voice for change in Arlington, across Virginia, and nationwide on housing policy, and will continue as an enthusiastic supporter of the AHS mission alongside you all.
With gratitude,
Michelle McDonough Winters
Executive Director
