October brings Youth Justice Action Month (YJAM), an opportunity to raise awareness and mobilize action for youth who come in contact with the law. In support of YJAM, President Joe Biden issued a proclamation: “To give all of our young people a chance to live up to their full potential, we need to shift our approach from a default stance of incarceration to one of prevention — a strategy that recognizes that children’s developmental stages and needs are starkly different from those of adults.”

The Sentencing Project applauds President Biden's recognition and commitment to advancing youth justice reforms. Will you join us? 

1. Join Oct. 12th Webinar & Teach In, “Treating Kids Like Kids.”
   Learn about policy changes at the state and federal level that end the harsh treatment of children as adults and challenge the racist frame of children as “superpredators."
    
2. We need Congress to hear from you! 
   The First Step Implementation Act gives children who were sentenced to extreme time in federal court the opportunity for a second look. Take action and tell your Senator you support the bill.
    
3. Amplify your voice for #YJAM.
   Post a 30-60 second video sharing why we need youth justice reform now.
