In The News
Axios: Consumers expected to pay up for holiday shopping. Price increases, and consumers’ willingness to pay them, may help save manufacturers’ and retailers’ bottom lines in a season riddled with shipping and logistics logjams.
The New York Times: Republicans at Odds Over Infrastructure Bill as Vote Approaches. Although the measure is the product of a compromise among moderates in both parties, House Republican leaders are leaning on their members to reject the $1 trillion infrastructure bill by disparaging its contents and arguing that it will only pave the way for Democrats to push through their far larger climate change and social policy bill.
The Hill: Republican candidates tack toward right on abortion. Republicans across the country are working to appeal to the party’s anti-abortion voter base ahead of next year’s midterms elections by lurching further to the right on the deeply controversial issue than their primary competitors.
Roll Call: It was a good night for Republicans at the Congressional Baseball Game. Republicans and Democrats squared off at the game Wednesday night, as they have nearly every year since 1909 (last year being the rare, pandemic-caused exception). The ticket sales, concessions and sponsors raised $1.2 million for a handful of local charities, including the Washington Literacy Center and the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Washington.
KWWL: Hinson, Rubio introduce bill to redirect money for former Afghan government to American industries. The collapse of the Afghan government in August brings questions about U.S. aid that Congress has already appropriated for the now-defunct government. On Thursday, Congresswoman Ashley Hinson and former presidential candidate Senator Marco Rubio introduced a bill called the Prioritizing Readiness and Competitiveness Act.
