Call to Stop Encampment Evictions Hi John,
On Monday, October 4, DC is planning to evict 3 of the largest encampments in the District. The encampments are home to hundreds of our neighbors, taking away their communities and right to self-determination without a guarantee of safe and accessible housing. The office of the Deputy Mayor Of Health and Human Services (DMHHS) is trying to push this unnecessary eviction through with unfairly short notice, putting the well-being and health of encampment residents at risk. This is the start of a larger effort by the District to create tent-free zones which would criminalize homelessness.
The city is breaking its promises so we need to hold our officials - who we helped elect - accountable. We need you to call DC Councilmember Charles Allen TOMORROW to tell him you oppose this plan. It’ll only take a minute or two but flooding his phone has the potential to stop the evictions. Sign up for a 5 min slot to call here.
It’s time to use our privilege and power to help prevent this inhumane plan. All of us, including you, can work together to halt this eviction.
In solidarity, Sunrise DC |
