Meet CALIFORNIA ENVIRONMENTAL VOTERS (formerly CLCV):

A New Approach to Climate Action

Let’s be clear: The climate crisis is here and Black, Indigenous, people of color have been bearing the burden of our pollution-based economy for generations. We have the solutions to stop climate change, but we lack the political will to do it at the necessary rate and scale. However, we know now these solutions go beyond conservation. To reflect this shift, we are changing our organization’s name from California League of Conservation Voters to CALIFORNIA ENVIRONMENTAL VOTERS (EnviroVoters).

WATCH: I Am a California EnviroVoter

We only have until 2030 to avert major climate catastrophe, so we must be laser-focused on using all the tools at our disposal to accomplish this goal.  Solutions to the climate crisis exist, but the political will to implement solutions at the rate and scale science tells us is needed does not. California, as the fifth largest economy in the world and a progressive environmental leader for decades, plays an outsized role in leading the transformation. Voters across the state and party lines agree – protecting our environment and solving the climate crisis are top priorities. We’re going to need everyone in the fight against the climate crisis, and CALIFORNIA ENVIRONMENTAL VOTERS (EnviroVoters) reflects the current moment.

Redistricting: We Draw The Lines For Climate Justice

At EnviroVoters, we’re trying to change what is possible – part of that is changing how we choose our leaders! In so many states, politicians draw their own districts every ten years – they get to pick their voters! In California, a nonpartisan commission draws fair lines after thousands of comments from ordinary Californians like you. Our c3 EnviroVoters Education Fund is drawing and advocating for state legislative and Congressional districts that center our major pollution sources, public land, and historically disenfranchised communities suffering the worst impacts of climate chaos. Join us to lobby the California Citizens’ Redistricting Commission this fall!

EnviroVoters Statement on the California Recall Election

Thank you to everyone who voted, volunteered, and donated to oppose this dangerous recall. Because of your support, Governor Gavin Newsom defeated the recall effort. Voters across the state and party lines want their leaders to prioritize the climate crisis, and this sentiment was further echoed by the clear rejection of this recall. Now it’s time to get to work; our state is still in crisis. This work wouldn’t be possible without your partnership. Click on the button below to read our full statement!

The climate crisis is here and we believe this moment requires transformative change. California has the policy solutions to stop climate change but is lacking the political will to do it at the rate and scale that’s necessary. California Environmental Voters (formerly CLCV) exists to build the political power to solve the climate crisis, advance justice, and create a roadmap for global action. We organize voters, elect and train candidates, and hold lawmakers accountable for bold policy change. We won’t stop until we have resilient, healthy, thriving communities, and a democracy and economy that is just and sustainable for all.
