Our health care matters too much to stay silent.John,

I know firsthand what it’s like to be faced with a doctor who seemed to be treating the stereotype of a Latinx woman, rather than treating me, the patient in front of him. If you, like me, have ever been afraid of being judged or shamed when planning a doctor’s visit, have had a doctor dismiss your symptoms or pain because of your race or gender, or have had a loved one mistreated in a health care setting for not being able to speak English well — we need your stories, right now. [[link removed]] If you care about stopping discrimination in health care, you have just under a month to comment on the Trump-Pence administration’s proposed rule that tries to strip away our health care rights and introduce discrimination into our health care system. Every single story and comment counts — join me and tell the Trump-Pence administration: don’t roll back the Health Care Rights Law. [[link removed]]

Thank you for all that you do to protect our health care,

Kelli Garcia
Director of Reproductive Justice Initiatives & Senior Counsel

Dear John,

We should all be able to access the health care we need without fear of being turned away, shamed, or treated unfairly. Yet, the Trump-Pence administration is once again trying to introduce discrimination into our health care system, and it will hurt most those who already face barriers to care.

This administration has proposed a sweeping new rule that rolls back a key part of the Affordable Care Act — the Health Care Rights Law, also known as Section 1557. This is a law that protects patients from discrimination in health care, including sex discrimination. The proposed rule targets abortion and gender identity specifically, but its harmful provisions would enshrine discrimination in virtually all facets of health care. We can’t let that happen.

If you ever need health care, this rule could impact you. Demand this administration puts patients first.
TAKE ACTION [[link removed]]

If this rule is finalized, it will be devastating. It could lead to health care providers:

Denying you care if you are having a miscarriage. Turning you away from a health clinic because you previously had an abortion. Refusing prenatal care to you for being pregnant outside of marriage. Shaming and sending you away for being trans.Enough is enough. Our health care matters, no matter how many times this administration tries to say otherwise.

If you’ve ever experienced barriers to health care, have been afraid of being judged or shamed when planning a doctor’s visit, or had a provider dismiss your pain or symptoms because of your race or gender — the Health Care Rights Law protects you — even though this administration wants to take it away. And it needs to hear from you. The Department of Health and Human Services is obligated to read every single comment that is submitted. Submit your comment and demand the administration put patients first today! [[link removed]]
Sincerely,
