Village Board to hear more detail on water source options

At Tuesday's Committee of the Whole, the Village Board will hear the fourth in a series of presentations on the Village's future water source options. Tuesday's discussion will focus on evaluating the future water options, including cost.?

The Village of Oswego and many surrounding communities receive their water from an underground reservoir, or aquifer, that is predicted to no longer be a reliable source of water for Oswego by 2050, and may put some wells at risk for inoperability by 2033. Over the last several years, the Village has collaborated with the Village of Montgomery and United City of Yorkville to study several alternative sources including the Fox River and Lake Michigan water through the DuPage Water Commission, the soon-to-be-established Joliet Water Commission or Illinois American Water.

Over the summer, the Village Board has heard a variety of presentations regarding the Village's water supply, and a public open house was held September 15. These presentations and more information about the water source study can be found on the Village's website. The goal is to select the Village's future water source by the end of 2021. The Committee of the Whole begins at 6 p.m. at Oswego Village Hall, and can also be viewed online.
