Friend — I’m sick of Facebook. Day after day, we see troves of disinformation — ranging from vaccine conspiracy theories to racist lies about the 2020 election — spreading unchecked across the platform. But at least Facebook gave Trump the boot, right? WRONG. Trump may be offline, but he is spreading hateful and dangerous lies through his PAC’s ads. Just this past week, Facebook hosted “Save America” ads that asked supporters to confirm they believe “Trump is the true president.” That’s why today, we’re circling Facebook’s D.C. headquarters and Capitol Hill with a truck carrying a billboard reading “Nobody is above the rules.” We know that Mark Zuckerberg takes action only when public pressure makes it impossible for him not to — will you donate now to help us cover the $2,700 cost of the mobile billboard and continue to draw attention to Facebook’s role in the spread of disinformation? Remember, we will DOUBLE every gift made through Oct. 31 to support the fight against disinformation on Facebook and beyond.
Today's mobile billboard is all part of Free Press Action’s plan to put all eyes on Facebook as we deliver approximately 140,000 signatures from our petition demanding that the company close the loophole that allows Trump to advertise on its platform. We know that it won’t be easy to get Mark Zuckerberg to do the right thing. After all, Facebook happily profited off the racist conspiracy theories that drove the Jan. 6 insurrection. And the years (yes, years!) of pandemic disinformation that have contributed to hundreds of thousands of COVID-19 deaths have likely been good for Facebook’s bottom line. Help us pay for today’s $2,700 mobile billboard — and continue to keep the pressure high on Facebook for as long as it takes. Donate now — while all gifts up to $10,000 will go TWICE as far to help us pursue one of the greatest battles of our time: the fight against disinformation. Facebook has failed to define what content it considers in the voice of public figures. It’s refused to explain why politicians can use PACs under their control to get around the enforcement of the platform’s policies. But Mark Zuckerberg and Sheryl Sandberg know very well that their interpretation of Team Trump ads runs counter to campaign-finance laws. There is no question that all messages disseminated by this PAC, established and controlled by Trump, are in Trump’s voice. We need your help to stop Trump from using his PAC to continue pushing hate and lies every day. Please donate today to help us cover the cost of the mobile billboard — and to keep up the fight against disinformation on Facebook and beyond. In solidarity, Rose and the rest of the Free Press Action team freepress.net P.S. There’s something I want to make sure you know. Every action we take to demand that Facebook finally put an end to disinformation and racism on its platform is possible because of gifts from supporters like you. When we got white supremacist Richard Spencer kicked off Facebook: It was gifts from people like you that made that possible. When we got Trump’s account shut down: Free Press Action donors provided the resources we needed to make it happen. Please donate now while your gift will be DOUBLED to help us get Trump — and his PAC — off Facebook for good.
