ELIZABETH WARREN'S CAMPAIGN DIRECTOR TO SPEAK AT BLUE BALL

Kimberly Diaz Scott, the Florida State Director for “Warren for Florida,” will be the keynote speaker at the Blue Ball: 2020 Vision on November 2nd.  Diaz Scott is the first and only Florida State Director for any of the Democratic presidential candidates.

With Democratic Candidate Elizabeth Warren currently running at or near the top of national polls, the event provides a rare opportunity for local voters to hear ‘first hand’ from a major campaign representative.

Please purchase your tickets by Tuesday, Oct. 29. To make a purchase, go to democratsofindianriver.org and click on the Events tab from the dropdown Menu on the right. Tickets are $50.

Remember, the event is Saturday, November 2nd from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Irish American Society, 1314 20th St., Vero Beach.  The popular music from the 20th Street Jazz Band will be featured. The dinner buffet menu will feature roast pork loin and baked fish, as well as other delicious dishes and desserts. Drinks will be available at the very reasonably priced cash bar. Cocktail attire is the dress for the evening.

DEMOCRATIC CLUB OF INDIAN RIVER – NOVEMBER MEETING

The November 12th meeting of the Democratic Club will concentrate on YOU. This will be a chance for you to use your talents and skills to help win in 2020! Pizza and salad will be served. Cash bar available.

We will also be electing a vice president and treasurer. Please contact Claudia Martino at 954-290-5661 if you are interested in becoming a club officer.

Our meetings are on the second Tuesday of the month from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Irish-American Society, 1314 20th St., Vero Beach. We always have social time at the meetings so please join us and meet with like-minded folks.

DEMOCRATS BOOTH – HELP NEEDED

We are looking for a team of individuals who are willing to take on the task of managing our booth (set up, take down, training volunteers).  As we head into 2020, it is vital that the Democrats have a presence at community events.  Since this is such an important job, and time commitment, we would like to have a team of volunteers in charge, as opposed to one or two people.  If you are interested in volunteering as part of the team, please email Stacey at [email protected]

Also, please note, due to the Centennial Celebration this weekend, there is no Downtown Friday this month.  There is also no Downtown Friday in December.  The Downtown Friday in November is the day after Thanksgiving and the Democrats will not be having a booth in November.

FELLSMERE CHILDREN IN NEED

The Fellsmere community is seeking Christmas donations for children ages 11 to 18.  These children are now excluded from the Toys for Tots program due to their age.  If you are able and willing, the office will be accepting gifts or gift cards for these kids through the month of November.  Please bring any donations to Stacey at the Democrats of Indian River Headquarters, 2345 14th Ave., Vero Beach, 32960.

FLORIDA DEMOCRATIC PARTY RESOLUTIONS

Last week in the newsletter we told you that 3 out of 4 of our resolutions were included in the Final Resolution Package of 15 resolutions.  These resolutions were:  Resolution Condemning President Trump's Racist Acts and Comments, Resolution on Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), and Resolution to Enact Common Sense Gun Reform.  Resolutions constitute the platform for the FDP so we have had a major impact on the policy direction of our party.  The 15 resolutions will be taken to the DNC National Convention in Milwaukee this summer.  You can read all 15 resolutions by clicking on the link below:

SAMARITAN SOUP BOWL

🥣 Soup is coming to Indian River County!  The 27th Annual Samaritan Center Soup Bowl will be held county wide on Thursday, November 7, 2019. More than 70 local restaurants supply the soup which will be served at the local places of worship and each business location provides their own soup. Lunch will be served from 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. For locations, see the contact information in the flyer below.

BLUE GALA 2020 COMMITTEE

The BLUE Gala Committee is excited to announce that the Indian River Charter High School Jazz Band will be performing at our Gala in February.  If you haven’t heard these students play, now is your chance!

The Gala Committee is still looking for someone to Chair our Auction Committee.  This is an impactful position and will allow for a more expanded committee of participants.  We are also looking for volunteers to help our BLUE Gala 2020 Chair, Steve Lieberman, plan our Gala.  If you like event planning and have some free time, please contact Steve at [email protected]  The Gala will be at the Moorings on February 23, 2020 and is always a great evening!
