Hey, did you know that long before I served as a Colorado Senator, I helped elect John as Denver’s mayor? Then I went on to become superintendent of Denver Public Schools. With my background, I wasn’t the obvious choice for Colorado’s next Senator when I was appointed in 2009. Republicans and the media didn’t let me forget it.

They called me, the “accidental senator.”

I get it. I had never run for office but I worked with incredible people from all over and saw Colorado for what it was — its strengths, weaknesses, and where we could do better. I knew with the right team we could do some good work in the Senate. So I rolled up my sleeves and fought to make health care more accessible, to expand opportunity, and more.

When my old friend John announced he was running for Senate, I did everything I could to help so we could flip the Senate and overcome Mitch McConnell’s obstruction. It was a rough fight but thanks to support from folks like you, John and I have achieved some great things for Coloradans, including the expanded Child Tax Credit that’s helped over one million kids in our state.

We have so much more work to do but all Washington Republicans have to do is flip one single Senate seat and they’re back in charge. And, they’re specifically targeting my seat so I’m reaching out with a personal request.

Will you split a donation between John and my re-election campaign before the end-of-quarter deadline expires at midnight to keep Colorado blue and hold our slim Senate majority?
