With all eyes on 2020, it’s easy to forget that we’re less than two weeks away from critical elections in cities and states across the country. But our path to victory in 2020 begins now.

In this week’s Off the Sidelines Spotlight, we’re highlighting key races and sharing ways you can get involved, whether or not there’s an election in your district.

• Three states hold gubernatorial elections this year: Kentucky, Louisiana and Mississippi. Kentucky and Mississippi vote on November 5, and Louisiana’s runoff will be held on November 16.

• Louisiana, Mississippi and Virginia also have state legislative elections this year. All 80 seats in New Jersey’s General Assembly (the state’s lower house) are up for a vote in 2019.
 
• Voters in Washington State and Pennsylvania can weigh in on statewide ballot measures on November 5.

• All eyes on Virginia: All 140 seats in Virginia’s bicameral state legislature are up for grabs, and Democrats need to flip just two seats in each chamber to take control. A majority in the state’s General Assembly would give Democrats the opportunity to make real progress on issues like gun violence prevention, affordable health care and reversing partisan gerrymandering.

VOLUNTEER: A number of organizations offer opportunities to volunteer both on-the-ground and remotely. Here are just a few:
  • Swing Left has a handy tool that customizes volunteer and activism opportunities based on your zip code
  • Sister District is organizing volunteers to elect Democrats in state legislatures in key states
  • The Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee has a massive list of volunteer opportunities, which you can filter by priority, type of event, location, and date/time
