Our Medicare expansion priorities are on the line this week. It all hinges on whether Congress passes the budget reconciliation package.
Here’s the bad news: There are a handful of Congressional members who are hoping to strip out or water down these provisions at the last minute.
Here’s the good news: Democrats in the House have the leverage to withhold their votes on the bipartisan infrastructure bill until the Build Back Better Act (the budget reconciliation package that includes key priorities like Medicare expansion) passes first. Now, it’s our job to make sure they use this leverage so we can lower drug prices and expand Medicare.
The developments on the ground in D.C. continue to change by the minute, but it is extremely important for House members to hear from constituents right now that they should #HoldTheLine and not vote on the infrastructure bill until the Build Back Better Act passes first. It’s the best way we can ensure that our Medicare expansion priorities make it into the final bill.

Sample script:
"Hi, my name is _____, and I'm calling from Philadelphia.
I’m calling to urge Rep. Boyle to ensure that Medicare expansion and improvement is included in the budget reconciliation bill, including a comprehensive plan to lower drug prices through Medicare negotiation, expanding Medicare coverage to include full dental, vision, and hearing benefits, and lowering the eligibility age to 60. I urge Rep. Boyle to withhold their vote on the infrastructure bill until the reconciliation bill passes, to ensure that the full Build Back Better agenda happens."
Right now is a key moment. Negotiations are happening behind the scenes, and we need to mobilize quickly to make sure that the final contents of the budget reconciliation bill include all of our demands. Those include:
We’re so close to the finish line, and together we can deliver the largest expansion of Medicare in history – one that will improve millions of lives.
Thank you for taking the time and helping us get this far.
