I’m Rep. Pat Henegan and I serve the people of Marlboro, Chesterfield & Darlington Counties in the SC House of Representatives. As a former Chair of the SC Women’s Caucus and current Chair of the SC Legislative Black Caucus, I recognize the hallmarks of a true leader.

That’s why I’m proud to support Mia McLeod’s historic candidacy for governor.

In a moment, I’m going to ask you to make a donation to her campaign ahead of their end-of-quarter deadline tonight, but first let me tell you a little about why I think Mia is the best choice to lead South Carolina.

I’ve known Mia all her life.

We’re both from Bennettsville, SC: a place so neglected by politics as usual that some call it the “corridor of shame.” For almost two decades, we’ve seen governor after governor fail to acknowledge or address the needs of our most vulnerable communities. I knew Mia’s parents. Her mom and aunts were public school teachers. Her dad was small businessman. She comes from a long line of servant leaders. Her parents and grandparents left a lasting legacy of service to our community.

We’re sisters: both of us are members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc…the oldest Greek-Letter Sorority established by Black, college-educated women -- founded in 1908 -- whose mission is service to all mankind.

We’re colleagues: I currently have the honor of representing our hometown county (Marlboro) in the SC House, which has given me numerous opportunities to witness first-hand Mia’s courageous leadership in the SC House and Senate.

Time and time again, she has shown she’s unafraid to stand up against the keepers of the status quo and fight for what’s right.

In the face of extreme opposition, she boldly fights for living wages, public education, jobs, healthcare access, pay and gender equity, racial justice, infrastructure investments, voting rights, criminal justice and policing reforms, reproductive rights, equity and inclusion and so much more. Mia is the fearless leader we need to meet this moment and work to create a better, stronger state for ALL South Carolinians.

Never has it been more clear that we cannot afford another four years of indifference. Putting politics above the lives of the people of South Carolina continues to cost our citizens their lives and livelihoods. Enough is enough. That's why I'm reaching out to you today. We're down to the wire on this deadline, and we can't afford to play political games with the future of our state.

We need a bold, compassionate leader in the Governor’s Office. That leader is Mia. Let’s do everything we can to ensure she's the candidate we put up against Henry McMaster next November. She's our best hope for a South Carolina where we ALL thrive.

I know Mia has the courage and experience to lead. Now, we need to make sure she has the support to win. Before midnight, chip in to help her campaign reach their fundraising goal and elect Mia as our next governor.
