Location: Your home and hundreds of locations across the country!

Sandra writes about climate change, ecology, and the links between human health and the environment. Her highly acclaimed book, Living Downstream: An Ecologist’s Personal Investigation of Cancer and the Environment, was the first to bring together data on toxic releases with data from U.S. cancer registries and was adapted for the screen in 2010. As both book and documentary film, Living Downstream has won praise from international media

Described as “a poet with a knife” by Sojourner magazine, Sandra has received many honors for her work as a science writer, including, a Heinz Award in 2011. By donating the cash prize to the anti-fracking movement, she became, in 2012, the co-founder of New Yorkers Against Fracking, a statewide coalition of more than 280 grassroots organizations.

CoCo Villauz (Hidatsa/Assiniboine/Chamorro) has been working in community mobilization, education, and policy work for the past 20 years. CoCo’s focus includes the restoration of traditional tobacco and cultural lifeways as a way to create change. One of her recent accomplishments was receiving the 2020 Minnesota Public Health Association’s Paul and Sheila Wellstone Public Health Achievement Award. CoCo is inspired by her ancestors to carry on their teachings for her children. In her free time, she loves to hike, visit, and dance with her family.

Following our panel discussion, award-winning comedian, writer and playwright, Luna Malbroux will close our evening. Luna fuses her experience as a skilled facilitator, consultant and educator of justice, equity, inclusion, diversity and cultural humility into all of her creative endeavors. But as a comic, that doesn’t mean she packs any less of a punch.

Luna's specialty is in the synthesizing of genres - from turning the documentary experience Mapping Privilege into an award-winning play, How to Be a White Man, to blending jazz, comedy, storytelling and a good ol’ fashion groove with her band, The Moon and The Man.

Sandra, CoCo, and Luna have all worked closely with Breast Cancer Action over the years and we are honored that they are joining us on October 12.
