Dear Colleague,
A new article published in a supplement to the Journal of the International AIDS Society describes a collaborative effort to provide countries with more accurate estimates of voluntary medical male circumcision (VMMC) coverage. The UNAIDS Reference Group on Estimates, Modelling, and Projection and Avenir Health worked with ministries of health and local stakeholders to use the Decision Makers Program Planning Toolkit (DMPPT) 2 Online to integrate VMMC data in the Annual HIV Estimates process.
The process included review and validation of VMMC data by local stakeholders in 13 of the 15 priority countries and upgrading of the DMPPT 2 Online to align with the models used in the Annual HIV Estimates. This integration resulted in a more streamlined process for updating estimates and more reliable, robust data that VMMC programme staff can use for planning and policymaking.\
A case study also available on the Clearinghouse illustrates how the DMPPT 2 Online can be used with other tools to plan demand creation for VMMC.
Best regards,
Clearinghouse Webmaster
