John,
The newly opened Empire State Trail is a continuous 750-mile route spanning New York State from Plattsburgh and Buffalo to New York City.
Unfortunately, there are still 7.8 million New Yorkers east of New York City in Long Island that can’t access this trail — that’s nearly 40% of the entire state’s population!
Help The Trust for Public Land connect these millions of New Yorkers with the Empire State Trail by making a tax-deductible donation today.
To accomplish this goal, we are planning to provide 175 miles of car-free transportation and recreation options by creating a historic trail — the Long Island Greenway — spanning from one end of Long Island to the other, connecting millions of residents with the Empire State Trail in Manhattan. We will do so by making use of utility corridors which already exist.
This project represents a significant portion of our goal to build and connect 1,000 miles of national trails and greenways across the nation before 2025, in addition to our efforts to permanently protect one million acres of land and 1,000 miles of rivers and streams.
But we can’t do it without you. That’s why I urge you to donate to The Trust for Public Land today, to advance this vital work and our many other projects.
Thanks to The Trust for Public Land’s cost-efficient process, every $1 you give today saves $8 worth of land! By acting now, we can extend the Empire State Trail across Long Island — and transform how 7.8 million people play, commute, and live healthy lives.
We can’t do it without you, so please give today.
Sincerely,
Kim Elliot
