Manchin: Reconciliation Must Include Hyde Amendment

Otherwise, he said it’s “dead on arrival” (National Review). And as for the additional $3.5 trillion in spending, Manchin said “What I have made clear to the President and Democratic leaders is that spending trillions more on new and expanded government programs, when we can’t even pay for the essential programs, like Social Security and Medicare, is the definition of fiscal insanity. Suggesting that spending trillions more will not have an impact on inflation ignores the everyday reality that America’s families continue to pay an unavoidable inflation tax (National Review).

Biden Policies Leading to Skyrocketing Energy Costs

From the story: OPEC and Russia are gradually ramping up supply, but U.S. oil production remains 15% below pre-pandemic levels. About 20% of production in the Gulf of Mexico remains knocked out from Hurricane Ida. Even before the storm, U.S. oil and gas producers were curtailing investment amid a hostile political climate… Meantime, permits issued by the Interior Department for drilling on federal land declined to 171 in August from 671 in April. Democrats’ $3.5 trillion-plus spending bill includes royalty and fee increases that would make U.S. oil and gas producers globally uncompetitive. Less U.S. production will make global oil and gas prices higher for longer than necessary.

Majority of Veterans Say Biden Did Poor Job in Afghanistan Exit

With 60 percent giving a negative response (Pew). From Mollie Hemingway: These horrible results for Biden were even after the Pew pollster gave vets three options for a positive response (“fair,” “good,” and “excellent”), and just one for bad (“poor”). Let’s work on hiding the bias a bit better in our poll questions, team (Twitter). From Carol Liebau: NBC News reported that, as of May, some 20,000 Afghans had applied for the special immigrant visas. When their families are included, the total eligible for such protection is at least 70,000. All this means are those who need and deserve our protection most have been abandoned, even as the vast majority of Afghan evacuees brought to this country are completely unvetted. It’s just another way the Biden administration has managed to betray both America and our allies in the withdrawal from Afghanistan (Townhall Review).
