Last winter, during one of the coldest weeks on record, the power went out at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn — and it stayed out for one week.
When Jerry visited the site of the power outage, he was stunned by the complete lack of urgency to address this issue.
During this time, inmates were unable to receive the medications they needed, visit with family and friends, or access telephones, computers, and even laundry machines.
This is unacceptable and we must raise our voices together to stand up and demand appropriate treatment of inmates. Add your name.

That’s why, Jerry is holding the Federal Bureau of Prisons accountable for these actions, and recently chaired a Judiciary hearing on the implementation of the First Step Act, a bipartisan law passed to combat injustices within our criminal justice system.
This is completely unacceptable. Inmates should not be left shivering in a freezing detention center during the depths of winter. Prisoners should be treated like people. Plain and simple.
