In a moment, I’m going to ask you to split a donation between Tim Ryan’s Ohio Senate campaign and my re-election. But first, I hope you’ll give me a chance to explain why this is so important.

As you know, Democrats have the slimmest possible majority in the Senate, and we’re seeing right now how difficult that can be to work with.

There’s no margin for error, and Mitch McConnell and the Republican caucus are obstructing at every turn. This week, they voted to shut down the government, which would spell disaster for our country, pausing Social Security payments, assistance for veterans, and other critical support. It’s dangerous and a clear sign they should not be allowed to lead the government.

So we need to fight not just to hold our majority but to expand it, and Tim Ryan’s campaign in Ohio is one of the best opportunities we have.

The choice could not be clearer in this race.

Republicans have a bunch of extreme far-right candidates trying to outflank each other as they vie for Trump’s base. Several are multi-millionaires, and one has already committed to spending $5 million of his own money to try to buy this seat.

Meanwhile, my close friend Tim Ryan is running a campaign that puts people first — fighting for our country’s workers. Tim is a close, old friend, and having represented hardscrabble, hard-working Youngstown for years in the House, he wakes up every day thinking about what Congress needs to do to help the working families of Ohio.

There’s a big FEC deadline tomorrow, and the truth is his campaign is pacing behind their goal. Fundraising during the summer is notoriously hard. Fundraising professionals call it the “summer slump,” and Tim Ryan needs our help to bounce back and reach his goal before the deadline. What do you say?
