A new study of Arctic permafrost reports that permafrost is melting at levels previously not expected until 2090 - that's 70 years ahead of schedule. This is a giant red warning sign for the climate crisis.

This study comes only months after scientists saw temperatures reach a stunning 84 degrees near the Arctic Circle. Melting permafrost is a huge problem that threatens dozens of species with extinction. When permafrost melts, it releases methane and other greenhouse gases into our atmosphere, accelerating climate change and increasing temperatures even further - which in turn melts more permafrost. Simply put, it's a vicious feedback loop.

That feedback loop is made even more vicious by toxic polluters who use their influence in Washington to prevent climate action. For almost 40 years, fossil fuel polluters have understood the existential threat their pollution poses - yet they've put profits over people, spending billions lobbying Congress to allow them to keep polluting with impunity.
