Hey yall!
Here's some of what's going on with the Chapter this week:
- In the immediate aftermath of Hurricane Ida, our membership worked across the area to distribute food and supplies, share resources, and help our neighbors and fellow workers in a variety of different ways. Next Tuesday, October 6th at 6PM, we've be having a Disaster Relief Debrief to discuss what we did, what worked, what didn't, and where we go from here as we continue to prepare for future climate disaster. Register for the call here.
- The DSA New Orleans Voter Guide is officially underway! In anticipation of the November 13th election, our team is digging up the dirt on candidates, with a focus on how the ground they share with various interests makes up our local political landscape. This guide will be tuned into the races for Sheriff, Mayor, and City Council, among others, but ultimately asks the question: What stands between us and power? Our team meets on Mondays at 7:30pm, with interim conversations happening in our #electoral-working-group Slack channel. If you’d like to research or write about races, or have questions about candidates, come on through! We have a crack team of seasoned veterans and gumshoe researchers assembled, and all members are welcome.
-
Monday, October 4th at 6PM we'll be holding our monthly meeting of the Local Council, our chapter's elected leadership body. Everyone is welcome to attend these meetings. If you have questions, or want to submit agenda items for consideration by the Local Council, please email [email protected].
-
Lastly, reminder you once again that we've moved from our old Slack workspace! Slack is where the majority of our planning and discussion happens between General Meetings, so if you're a member and would like to join the new Slack, have any questions, or are unsure of your membership status, please email us and we'll get it sorted out.
Solidarity,
New Orleans Local Council

New to DSA? Check out our chapter's new member resources here. If you've got any questions about how to get involved or the work our chapter is doing, give us a shout at [email protected].
Not yet a member? The most important tool that the working class has is organization. We're strong when we fight together. We have to build a durable, mass political organization to wield the kind of power we need to win real change in our society. If you aren't a dues-paying member of DSA yet, join today!
