Dear friend,

My name is Odorie Albert Adelia. I’m writing to you from my home country of
Uganda, where I serve as Mercy Corps’ Operations Director.

In Uganda, and in much of the world, our communities continue to grapple with
the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Here, only 2% of people have received
their first or second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. Poverty, worsening social
inequities, and conflict are just some of the issues being exacerbated by the
pandemic.

COVID‑19 prevention awareness is a long-term, ongoing operation for Mercy
Corps, as are our other emergency response efforts. I’m touched by everyone
who chooses to support this work in
Uganda and in countries across the globe. I see the impact your generosity can
have on families facing crises.

[ [link removed] ]Mercy Corps trains people like Ayenget Florence, a village health team
member in Uganda, to prevent, identify, and treat malnutrition and common
  diseases.  

Ayenget says that since she started this role, her community’s health has
improved and severe cases of malnutrition have become less common.
 

I’m incredibly proud that, despite the growing issues facing Uganda, my country
still makes an effort to help others in need. We’re Africa’s top
refugee-hosting nation and have opened our doors to refugees fleeing crises in
places like Sudan. Our humanitarian policies reflect our belief that refugees
can benefit everyone, economically and socially — a stance shared by our teams
at Mercy Corps.

As we continue to support humanitarian efforts for both Ugandans and refugees,
we must also prioritize COVID‑19 education and awareness in order to protect
our communities and avert secondary crises. Your monthly
gift can help Mercy Corps plan and maintain steady support for
communities facing crises like the pandemic, natural disasters, violent
conflict, and the impacts of climate change.
