Right now, we’re at a critical juncture. We have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to tackle the climate crisis and make our society work for everyone, not just the wealthy few.

With Democrats in charge of the White House and Congress, our window to act is now. We must be bold and deliver the vision the American people voted for.

However, corporate lobbyists and conservative Democrats are trying to dictate our legislative priorities at the expense of the American people. They’re ramming through a much narrower infrastructure bill instead, which would take away all of our leverage to make the human investments we need and demand. That infrastructure vote is expected TOMORROW.

Let me be clear: bringing the so-called bipartisan infrastructure bill to a vote without the Build Back Better Act at the same time is a betrayal. We will hold the line and vote it down.

This is not the time for half measures or to go back on our promises.

With the historic Build Back Better Act, we have a chance to address poverty and the climate crisis, creating millions of good green jobs while investing in affordable child care, free community college, direct monthly cash payments to families with children, affordable housing, health care, and more.

I successfully fought to include funding to help people repair their homes and to replace lead pipes that poison drinking water. The environmental racism and poisoning of our children in Flint and Detroit is also happening across the country, and the time for environmental justice is now.

We’d pay for this popular bill by making the rich and big corporations finally pay their fair share of taxes.

We were expecting Big Oil, Big Pharma, and other destructive industries to go on the attack. So progressives made a plan to link our reconciliation package with a narrow bipartisan infrastructure bill in order to pass both bills with the support of all Democrats—using this leverage to secure needed votes from corporate, conservative Democrats.

However, House leader Rep. Nancy Pelosi just went back on that deal and scheduled a vote on only the narrow infrastructure bill for TOMORROW.

This could seriously jeopardize our chances to pass the full Build Back Better agenda, which President Biden won on. If we fail to deliver big bold change on behalf of working people, it not only limits our ability to address justice and equity, it could tank our chances of staying in control of the White House, the Senate, and the House.

So there’s a lot riding on tomorrow’s vote.
