You may know this already, but Virginia has elections every year and the Commonwealth is always the bellwether after each presidential election. But right now, our friends in Virginia are neck and neck in their race for the Governor’s mansion. Cook Political Report just rated Virginia a TOSS UP in the Gubernatorial election between former Governor Terry McAuliffe and his right wing, regressive, Republican opponent.

This election is the first test of Democratic support during Biden’s first term and we have to show our strength. That’s why we are asking Young Dems everywhere to join our friends in the Virginia Young Dems for their weekly phone banks on October 21st and October 28th.

Right now, the most important thing you can donate to Virginia is your time. Just 1 or 2 phone bank shifts can go a long way in this election. Virginia has been trending Blue, but it is not a solid Blue state. We have to throw everything we can behind our Democrats in Virginia. We’ll be using the automatic dialer Hubdialer which makes our calls so much more effective.

You also can do a lot organizing your own networks in Virginia. We'll learn about how to use the relational app Reach, brainstorm how to use social media to meet people where they are at, and so much more. Think about who you know who might need to register to vote - or who might know someone who does. People you work with or go to school with. People with siblings or kids who are seniors in high school and might have just turned 18. They might not vote if you don't ask them.
