The bipartisan infrastructure framework and $3.5 trillion budget reconciliation bill are a package deal — it’s critical we pass these bills together for the American people.

I’ve spent 8 years in the Senate watching the best of intentions not manifest into something real. And I’m not going to let that happen when passing both of these bills is our opportunity to address the urgent crises we face as a country.

It would be unacceptable to move forward without guaranteeing we’ll get folks the help they need — while everyday Americans are struggling to make ends meet due to surging prescription drug prices, lack of access to affordable childcare, dwindling affordable housing options, and more.

This isn’t about ego or partisanship to me — it’s about uplifting communities who are far too often forgotten or ignored by our government.

I’m doing everything in my power to move the negotiations along, but there’s no margin for error with the Senate split 50-50.

We need to expand our Senate Democratic majority in 2022 so it’s not a constant battle every time there’s a vote for progress. Imagine how much legislative change we could accomplish with a strong Democratic majority in the Senate. It’s within our reach.
