John,
Sometimes when I go down to our basement, I can still remember the grassy, muddy smell of my sweet little Daniel after he'd been playing outside.
For the longest time after Daniel was murdered, we preserved the basement exactly as he left it that morning. It was his place. We didn't touch the foosball table, because Daniel was the last to play. His books and toy trains – still covered in his fingerprints – gathered dust. Reminders of Daniel are everywhere: To this day, some of his strawberry blond hair is still sticking out of his yellow football helmet in the garage.
But every minute that passes puts me one minute further away from my life with Daniel, and the gulf keeps getting bigger. It breaks my heart. That's why I sacrifice myself for this work, even though it requires reliving Daniel's murder every day – because I know every shooting we prevent, every child we save, spares another parent from experiencing this unbearable pain.
This mission is who I am now, and I know we have to do more, John. But we can't expand our programs to protect more children from gun violence unless we secure every dollar of this critical match by tomorrow's deadline – and at this moment, we're still $112,436 short. Please, will you help me by making a donation now?
Please donate $10, or as much as you can, to Sandy Hook Promise now. Every dollar you give by tomorrow will be matched to protect twice as many children from gun violence.

I will devote the rest of my life to this work because I want to build a legacy for my little Daniel; I want to prevent this from happening to another family.
Your donation helps me do that, and I couldn't be more grateful. Thank you for all you do to help us save lives.
Mark Barden (Daniel's father)
